Helwan University Celebrates the Rise of a New Champion: Ahmed Gamal, World Champion in Weightlifting Under 20

In a new sporting achievement added to Helwan University's accolades, student Ahmed Gamal, a second-year student at the Faculty of Sports Science for Men, was crowned the World Champion in Youth Weightlifting under 20, during the 2025 World Championship held in Peru. This marks the emergence of a new global champion from the university.

Ahmed Gamal, nicknamed "The Dormant Volcano," successfully elevated the name of Egypt and Helwan University by securing the first place and the gold medal in the total weight category with a lift of 366 kg. He also earned the silver medal in the snatch with 166 kg and the gold medal in the clean and jerk with 200 kg, in the under 96 kg category.

Prof.Dr. Said Qandil, President of Helwan University, extended his heartfelt congratulations to champion Ahmed Gamal, praising his global achievement, which is a source of pride for both the university and Egyptian sports. He emphasized the university's commitment to supporting its champions and providing an environment conducive to athletic and academic excellence through talent development programs and collaboration with official sports bodies, reflecting the university's dedication to nurturing athletes who represent Egypt admirably on international platforms.

This accomplishment crowns a series of successes and notable progress in the athlete's performance, with significant improvements observed over the past two years:

December 2023: Second place in the Cairo Region (Total: 301 kg)

February 2024: Fourth place in the Republic Championship (Total: 314 kg)

March 2024: Third place in the University Championship (Total: 305 kg)

June 2024: Egypt National Team Trials (Total: 336 kg)

August 2024: World Championship Trials (Total: 347 kg)

September 2024: Seventh place in the World Championship in Spain (Total: 326 kg)

January 2025: Egypt National Team Trials (Total: 350 kg)

April 2025: World Championship Trials (Total: 360 kg)

May 2025: Reached the pinnacle in Peru after passing several national and international trials, proving his competence and capability.

The leadership of Helwan University, including Dr. Hossam Rifai, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Aliq, Advisor to the President for Student Activities, and Dr. Walid Abdel Razek, Dean of the Faculty of Sports Science for Men, congratulated student Ahmed Gamal, wishing him continued success and excellence.
