Dr. Fatma Elkhamisy from Helwan University is the Winner of the Most Innovative Teacher of the Year Award at the Times Higher Education Arab Awards 2024

The President of Helwan University, Prof. Elsayed Kandil, congratulated Dr. Fatma Elkhamisy, the Assistant Professor of Pathology, and Director of the International Students Unit at the Faculty of Medicine in Helwan University, for winning the Times Higher Education Arab Award 2024 in the category of the Most Innovative Teacher of the Year. Dr. Fatma Elkhamisy represented Helwan University and Egypt in this prestigious ceremony, where the winners were announced in a celebration, during the Arab Universities Summit, held at the University of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

 

Dr. Fatma Elkhamisy’s win was in appreciation of her distinguished efforts in pathology teaching and her management of the International Students Unit, as she succeeded in boosting the inclusion and engagement of Egyptian and International students via innovative teaching that is adaptable to the large classes in medical school. 

 

Prof. Kandil endorsed Helwan University's excellence in various fields, especially since the university has an elite prestigious scientific and academic staff, which qualifies it to compete internationally. He stressed the support the university by supporting its members in their various international participations.

More than 400 participants from across the Arab world competed for the Times Higher Education Arab World Awards this year, 96 of whom qualified for the final list, to select 12 winners in various categories. In the Most Innovative Teacher category, eight finalists competed, with Dr. Fatma Elkhamisy winning the award.

 

Dr. Elkhamisy was also selected this year among the list of the 100 most inspiring pathologists in the world by the international British magazine "The Pathologist" in its annual list "The Power List", in the " Heroes of Change" category, which includes 20 pathologists who are pioneers of change in the field. This is her second selection on this list after being selected in 2022 due to her distinguished efforts in pathology education.

 

Dr. Elkhamisy has a prestigious scientific position, as she is an associate fellow of the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE) and an ambassador for the International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE) in the USA, in addition to her membership in many specialized Egyptian and International societies. In addition to her PhD in Pathology, she holds a Master's degree in Health Professions Education from a joint program by Maastricht University, the Netherlands and Suez Canal University, Egypt. She has also organized international conferences and published numerous research papers in the fields of medical education and pathology and participates in the review of research papers for specialized international journals and conferences.
